Experience Detail
Cedars that were buried by the eruption of Sanbei Volcano during the Jomon Era (about 4,000 years ago) were discovered in their original state and are preserved and exhibited here.
Among the many buried forests in Japan, it is rare to find one that retains its long trunk, and its unique formation in the world has attracted attention from a geological perspective.
The easy-to-understand explanations and dynamic exhibits are well worth a visit.
This is an unusual museum that goes down to the basement, as the excavation site was turned directly into a museum.
The museum also has a full range of exhibits.
The display of Jomon cedars in their original excavated form is a highlight of the exhibition.
