As visitors from around the world are coming to Japan, the need for multi-language guides are increasing. In partnership with Nakatsugawa City, we conducted a guide training project in July, which consisted of an online training and a two-day on-the-job training tour.
For the on-the-job training, 31 people participated over the two days, including local residents and interpreter guides from afar. We invited Mr. Kazunori Ukisu, a professional guide interpretor, as the instructor, and he explained the key points of guiding while walking along the back alleys of Nakatsugawa-juku and the streets of Ochiai-juku to Magome-juku.
In addition to guide training, we hosted a training course on crisis management and emergency response. With Mr. Genta Sakamoto, an emergency medical technician, as the instructor, we introduced techniques on how to handle emergency situations that may occur during hiking and mountain climbing, which are an essential aspect to enjoying the area.
Through the training tour, participants were able to enjoy local areas while learning about how to guide them, and we receive commented such as “I realized how attractive the route from Nakatsugawa to Ochiai-juku and Magome-juku is through the program”, “I would definitely like to introduce these areas to visitors!”.
We hope that this tour will lead to further expansion of inbound guided tours in Nakatsugawa.
To those who participated, many thanks!
